Type Locality and Naming

Includes in Khation Region, Sughd Region, Darvaz district, Dushanbe - west Shirkent-Luchob, Dushanbe - east Shirkent-Luchob.

Synonym: Gazdagany horizon, газдаганинский горизонт


Lithology and Thickness

In the South Gissar region, the upper part of the Upper Cenomanian Gazdagany horizon (газдаганинский горизонт) is formed by dark gray clays with layers of ostracods and limestones. Thickness is 15-70 m.

In the Dushanbe region, the Gazdagany horizon is constructed similarly to that described in the South Gissar region.

In the Kafirnigan district, the Gazdagansky horizon (Газдаганинский горизонт) is composed of dark gray clays with layers of shell stones and limestones (15-70 m).

In the Vakhsh district, The Gazdagansky horizon corresponds to dark gray clays with layers of shellstones and limestones, similar to those mentioned above for other districts (20 - 65 m).

In the Darvaz district, Gazdagansky horizon (газдаганинскому горизонтам), which make up the upper Cenomanian sub-stage, are related to three suites: Rovkin Fm (ровикинская) (gray sandstones with layers of limestone, 50 - 100 m), Budalyk Fm (будалыксю-tя) (reddish conglomerates, sandstones and siltstones, 20-200 m), Izhudarin Fm (иджударинская) (gray biogenic limestones with Caprinula soluni Bobkova, Ichtyosarcolites tricarinatus Parona, Archimedea asiatica Djalilov and others, 10-50 m).

In the Karategin region, Gazdagansky horizon (газдагаuинский горизонты) - interbedded limestones, sandstones, and clays (40-50 m).

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Overlies the Tagarin Fm of middle Cenomanian or lies with a sharp angular unconformity on the Paleozoic.

Upper contact

Overlain by the Talhab Fm of lower Turonian.

Regional extent

Afghan-Tajik Basin. It is widespread in South Gissar region, Dushanbe region, Kafirnigan district, Vakhsh district, Darvaz district, Karategin region.

Fossils

In the South Gissar region, remains of the bivalves Korobkovitrigonia darwaseana (Rom.) and ammonites Calycoceras nowboldi (Cossm.). In the Darvaz district, Izhudarinskaya (иджударинская), Caprinula soluni Bobkova, Ichtyosarcolites tricarinatus Parona, Archimedea asiatica Djalilov and others. In the Karategin region, Rhynchostreon chaperi (Bayle), Korobkovitrigonia darwaseana Rom., Modiolus cf. bukharensis Bobkova, Archimedea asiatica Djalilav, etc.
